A tour of Mount Airy, birthplace of Andy Griffith.

We leave Ohio on October 16th and head for North Carolina and the boat…again.

I had an epiphany this 'travel' season but don't think I mentioned it yet on the blog.  We have been driving like idiots from one place to the next…just as if we were on vacation from work and had a schedule to keep.  It was wearing both of us out but especially Mark.

Now, we try to take a least one extra day on a trip.  If we normally drive one day…now we take two and try to find something interesting to do in-between.  I read in an Escapees RV'ing magazine that it is nice to have a goal or a 'theme' to travels.  Originally we thought we would hike trails and visit national parks but with Mark's muscle disorder that was out.

One of the things that we both enjoy are museums.  I have started to research what type of museums are on the way to were we are going.

This one however was accidental.  We stopped for the night in Mount Airy, NC and went to the Chili's next to our motel for a drink and dinner.  The bartender informed us that Mount Airy was the birthplace of Andy Griffith and there were a lot of things to see downtown.

Sure enough I get to have my picture take with Goober at the Andy Griffith museum.
